Songs for Singers

Dream (Maybe it's only a dream)

Strophe 1
Maybe it's only a dream. I'm spreading my arms like wings
to lift up and fly away.
I fly through my garden this early morning,
I'm starting into a lovely day.
The soft summerwind is stroking tenderly
my face and my streaming hair.
Like a small bird I feel light and free,
winging high up in the air, winging high up in the air.

Strophe 2
I feel like passing now the tops of the lightgreen trees
and leaving my homeplace behind.
Outstripping some buzzing little bumblebees,
I'm thinking this whole wide world looks so kind.
And villages, fields, and woods and meadows I pass,
a river leads me to the sea.
The scent of blossoms and fresh green grass
is still escorting me, is still escorting me.

Strophe 3
I'm even touching the clouds. They feel just as soft as foam,
below me the brilliant blue sea,
and I perceive islands with snow-white seams
so tiny swimming under me.
The water is glittering now like bright precious stones,
like turquoise and topaz, emerald.
Such an overwhelming happiness
never before I felt, never before I felt.

Refrain
So swiftly I'm flying and easily rising,
flying so high through the air,
so swiftly I'm flying and easily rising,
flying so high through the air.
