Strophe 1
Been on the road with friends and buddies,
we'd just managed our wrotten truck to move again,
bound for San Diego we were on our way.
Our mood was good, the sun was shining,
and the overwhelming view of surging Pacific
made us embrace the world on that fantastic day.
Strophe 2
And when he picked that poppy-flower,
'twas like petrol on the smouldering fire in my heart
to see him handing it over to my girl.
It really wasn't my intention,
but I watched that scene while I was in the caravan,
was at the window just the curtain to unfurl.
Refrain
I saw my Baby's happy smile and shining eyes
and it was so hard then for me to realize
what was on between my love and that young
hitchhiking boy who just got a lift that day.
I divined I was losing you.
Till day inclined my fears came true.
But life goes on for me.
C'est la vie.
